Liability and Liability Exclusions

Regulations according to the Montreal Convention:

Inter Island Airways liability for damage, destruction, loss or partial loss and for late delivery of baggage is limited to a maximum of $1,000 USD per journey and traveler.

Notification periods:

A loss or damage should be reported immediately at the airport. However, a retroactive written notification is also possible.

Please observe the following notification periods:
  • Damage and partial loss: within 7 days after baggage delivery
  • Total loss: within 2 years
  • Replacement purchases in case of delayed baggage delivery: within 21 days after baggage delivery
  • The postmark or the automatic date of receipt in case of fax or email is decisive for the observance of notification periods
We recommend that you take out a private baggage insurance.

Baggage Liability Restrictions:

Maximum liability is not automatic - damage or loss value must be proven Inter Island Airways does not assume liability for unsuitably packed items Inter Island Airways does not assume liability for loss, damage or delay of baggage that may result from a security search conducted by any local, state, or federal agency written notification will be placed inside your luggage or a seal may be placed on the outside of your luggage.
Normal Wear and Tear:

In the course of normal handling during travel, your luggage may show evidence of wear and tear.  Additionally, the automated systems used by airlines may sometimes accidentally scratch or cause minor cuts to your baggage during handling.  Baggage is designed to protect the contents.  Scratches, nicks or dirt may appear despite care in handling. Like most airlines, Inter Island Airways does not accept liability from normal wear and tear damage to checked luggage such as:
  • Damage to or loss of protruding baggage parts such as straps, pockets, pull handles, hanger hooks, wheels and feet or other items attached to the baggage
  • Broken wheels or feet
  • Lost pull straps
  • Minor cuts and scratches
  • Damage resulting from over packing
  • Damage to retractable luggage handles
  • Fragile or perishable items damaged during transport
  • Items unsuitably packed or unsuitable for transportation
