United States Citizens and Nationals: American Samoa is a United States Territory, United States citizens can live and work there, but they should have valid passports for entry.
Non-United States Citizens: On arrival, other nationalities are granted a 30-day stay. Entry permits are granted to all those who can provide proof of their onward passage and have adequate funds for their stay. For extensions up to a maximum of 90 days, one should apply to:

An exit permit is needed from immigration. It is possible that passports may be held until departure.
The Passport & Visa Office in the Administration building is open 08:30am -12:00pm, Monday to Friday and can issue US visas. |

Immunizations are required only if a person has been in an infected yellow-fever or cholera area 14 days previous to arrival.

Leaving American Samoa requires very little or any pre-immigration paper work. Just your airline ticket, passport (for purposes of your destination country requirements) and the destination country entry forms are all you will need to complete. |

Even though Independent Samoa and American Samoa are 70 miles apart, a Visa is required for all U.S. Nationals (those born in American Samoa) to enter the country. U.S. Citizens born in any U.S. State, Territory or possession (except American Samoa), or naturalized U.S. citizen do not require a Visa for entry into Samoa.

The National Hospital, Tupua Tamasese Meaole (TTM), located in the capital, is the sole teaching hospital and provides primary, secondary and limited tertiary care. It is the regional referral hospital for rural Upolu and as the national referral hospital also provides specialist medical services, outpatient clinics, surgery and inpatient care for people from Savaii. Medical specialists from TTM Hospital provide outreach clinics to Malietoa Tanumafili II hospital in Savaii and District Hospitals in internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics/gynecology and pediatrics. The national pathology, medical imaging, pharmacy and dental services are also based at the TTMH site.

The LBJ Tropical Medical Center, a 128-bed general acute care hospital, is the only hospital in the territory. The Medical Center provides a reasonable scope of general inpatient and outpatient services covering: medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, ear, nose and throat (ENT), eye, pediatrics, and renal dialysis. The LBJ hospital is the only clinical laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and outpatient pharmacy services in American Samoa. LBJ Tropical Medical Center is a semi-autonomous authority. LBJ has 4 major departments: Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery, and OB/GYN. LBJ facilities include an eight-bed, combined ICU (Peds/Adult/Medical/Surgical/Cardiac), a Labor & Delivery unit, NICU/Newborn Nursery, a 4 suite OR/PAR, a 14 station ESRD Dialysis unit. Specialty clinics are: Dental, EENT, Ophthalmology, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Surgery, Mental Health, Physical Therapy, and a busy Emergency/Family Practice Clinic.
